My aesthetic of capturing the natural humanity in faces—often staring directly into the camera, inviting the viewer to engage—has been part of my work from the very beginning.
It all started in 2003 with my first camera—a 1970s Canon 35mm film camera passed down from my grandfather to me. With it, I photographed friends, carefully developing their portraits in the darkroom, always searching for that unspoken connection in their gaze.
Transitioning to digital photography with my Canon and Nikon DSLRs opened up new creative possibilities, giving me the freedom to experiment and play. The lighter, more portable cameras became my constant companions as I traveled through Morocco, Kenya, and India, capturing the essence of each moment—whether in the eyes of people or even animals on safari. As my work evolved, so did my love for color. I began using contrast between subjects and their surroundings to reveal the richness and depth of each scene, bringing my vision to life in new and vibrant ways.
Now, with The Faces I Know, I’ve taken this exploration even further. This project blends my years of photography with the power of imagination, creating faces that feel familiar yet have never been met. The vibrant colors and high-contrast compositions invite viewers to pause, connect, and engage—just as I’ve always intended—capturing the timeless beauty and humanity in every gaze.
